The heat always makes me feel uncomfortable and grouchy.
I have a hard time staying awake, and I often feel lethargic and sleepy.
My energy levels are low, when it’s hot and humid. I used to work outside in the heat all summer. For 20 years, I worked as an HVAC contractor. Most of the time, I was outside working on a repair or installation. The summer months were the busiest, given the fact that we live in a very warm and humid climate zone. The summer months and scorching weather never bothered me in the past, until I turned fifty. After that, it’s like my entire internal temperature system stopped working properly. I’m sure some of it is menopause and old age, because it gets worse and worse every year. About five years ago, I had to stop working outside in the heat. I was outside working with two other HVAC contractors on a routine insulation job. We were on top of a roof, five stories in the air. The heat was scorching, and I passed out and almost fell off the roof. Ever since that incident, I’ve been working inside the office. I don’t make as much money, because I am hourly instead of commission. I used to make almost $80,000 a year, between HVAC repair jobs and installations. Now I only the make $50,000 a year, but at least I don’t have to work outside in the heat anymore. Most of the time, I answer phones, schedule appointments, and review the inventory. I’m also in charge of bookkeeping, payroll, and issuing checks to our vendors.
