Perfect solution – fireplace is jammed off, hide TV

This year is legitimately the most important Christmas of my entire life.

For the past 5 years or so, I’ve entirely calmed down my cookie baking, elaborate gift wrapping, & spending in order to focus more on being a financially responsible adult for the rest of the year.

This year, but, Christmas isn’t about adults. It’s all about my step-son, who will be coming up to spend the holiday week with us for the first time! My friend and I are both so excited, but it’s also quite stressful. There is entirely a lot of pressure to make the holiday a great one, since we’ll have a little one running around. That’s why I’ve been working so difficult to get the house in a festive mood lately. I knew that the tree was important, as were the lights & garlands, but the most festive decoration is the wood burning fireplace, in my opinion. I’ve wanted to use the little fireplace for at least a month already, but my friend and I have an organizational problem at home; the cable is currently kneeling in front of the fireplace, rather than being mounted above it. Yes, of course my friend and I regularly intended to transport the cable above the woodburning stove, but my friend and I just never got around to it since moving. Instead, we’ve relied on the boring outdated central heat. Now, we’ve run out of time to properly mount the cable safely away from the fire & heat of the fireplace, & have to find an alternative solution. At first I was pretty frustrated about the alternate heating conundrum, however I realized that it’s genuinely a nice thing. We’ll just have to put the cable away in the attic so my friend and I have access to the moderate fireplace. What better way to ensure my friend and I have a festive & fulfilling family holiday than removing the entire cable temptation?

Gas was never turned on

Periodically I entirely wonder about my man. He’s so smart in so various ways… & then entirely surprises me in other ways when he does incredibly stupid shit. This day, for instance, it came to light that he had not ever taken care of our insurance payment because he couldn’t’ remember the login information online. Therefore, he just let our policy expire because he didn’t make the time to call client service. I swear to god, there are afternoons that I almost murder him for his stupidity. That’s why I entirely shouldn’t be surprised about our little heating & cooling mishap the other week. I woke up one day to find that it was abruptly Fall! The air temperature outside had abruptly plummeted by about 25 degrees, & as such, the indoor air temperature had become surprisingly brisk, as well. At first I ran down to the control device & began punching at the furnace power button, trying to increase the heater settings to at least 80 degrees. The control device responded, however I never heard the central heating device kick into gear as I got ready for work. By the time I walked out the door that day, I was chilled to the bone & convinced that my friend and I had a major heating issue. Of course, my guy & I then had to argue over whether or not my friend and I should call out an Heating, Ventilation & A/C specialist to look over the furnace, because he was convinced that the Heating, Ventilation & A/C repair could be done separate from a professional’s opinion, but fast forward to three afternoons later, my friend and I still had no working heat in the house. Literally as I picked up the iPhone to call the nearest ventilation specialist, my bestie had a brilliant revelation. The furnace wasn’t broken at all, even though he had never set up the gas in our house to power the heating device.

Best time for vehicle to break down

I hate when people have something bad happen to them & their immediate response is something about how “it couldn’t have happened at a worse time.” I feel like that is a surefire way to feel bad for yourself.

Even if the event is unfortunate & unwanted, the truth is that there’s no such thing as a “good time” for something to break down or go awry.

Maybe this week was a bad time to be late to work, but tomorrow would legitimately be a bad one too – don’t get too salty about the circumstances. All the being said, I think my vehicle broke down at the best time possible the other week; You see, my outdated vehicle randomly had a few dashboard lights on & didn’t want to start up one day. It was bad timing, as I was on my way to work already, however I dealt with the immediate hurdles & made plans to have my vehicle fixed. Luckily for me, my bestie is a master mechanic, & I knew he’d be able to work on the car. Luckily for him, the outdoor air temperature randomly rose about 20 degrees on the day that the current vehicle part arrived. Before, it had been a genuinely cold 30 degrees outside for various weeks. My friend and I were running the furnace every day & dressing in various layers to get through the winter season rapidly changing temperatures, but when my vehicle broke down my bestie was genuinely skeptical of working on it out in the cold, however his fingers were so cold that they wouldn’t even work! Thank god, by the time the current part had been shipped & arrived at our house my friend and I had a moderate front abruptly pass through the area. It jumped to 80 degrees yeahterday, & my bestie finished working on my vehicle in record time.

Cold inventory

Most of the time I entirely savor my task.

It isn’t exactly a normal 9-5, & that’s quite important for me.

I work semi-remote & have quite a bit of freedom around there, because my boss has better things I like to do doing than worry about numbers every day, then one of the hard parts of the position, but, is the biweekly inventory that I manage myself, and my friend and I get a small crew of workers to come help us count, which entirely speeds up the physical part of the task, but then the real fun begins when I get to work out the numbers, but that means I genuinely usually look forward to the physical inventory count in comparison. That is, until this month… When I arrived at the facility bright & early in the day i was not expecting the indoor air temperature to be just as cold as it was outside. The outdoor temperature was about 35 degrees, & there was no relief indoors. That’s when I realized that normally when I arrive at work the heater has been running in the office for a few hours & the production machinery has warmed up the rest of the facility at least a few degrees. This early in the day, but, there had been no moderate relief in the entire space. My friend and I all got our clipboards & inventory sheets, & braved the brisk air in the warehouse wearing hats & gloves… Every hour or so everyone would run back into the moderate safety of the small office to heat up a few degrees before returning back to the wintery rapidly changing temperatures in the production facility, however by the time my friend and I were done counting I was more than ready to stand down at a moderate computer to play with numbers all day long with a space heater at my feet.

Beginning to look a lot like christmas… indoors

It’s kindof a weird sensation to be setting up Christmas decorations these days, I have to say.

I cherish the holiday and making our dwelling look festive for the season, but I’ve been feeling conflicted inside because it just doesn’t feel like the holiday is approaching.

You see, I’m accustomed to a cold and bleak winter season that signifies the coming festivities. I was born and raised in the midwest, where there is no shortage of ice cold weather, falling snow, and holiday cheer to combat the major depressive spell brought on by winter. Every morning feels like surviving as you pick up gifts and string lights in the freezing outdoors. The only relief is wrapping presents in the warmth and safety of your central heat at the end of the morning. These days, but, I live down in the south, and the air temperature sure is weird as the happiest morning of the year approaches. Rather than bundling up in heavy layers to go out and shovel the driveway every morning, we’re just starting to rake the leaves out of our yard. Instead of warming up by the fireplace with a hot cup of cocoa, we’re still lounging on outdoor patios to sip on ice cold drinks. Everything feels just a little “off” separate from the temperature change that I associated with Christmas for 26 years of my life. That’s why I’m trying desperately to keep our indoor environment as wintery and festive as possible! The first thing I did was to clear off our little gas fireplace so my buddy and I could have a fake roaring fire for the rest of the month. Next, I decorated all over with piney garland decorated with fake snow and bells. Finally, I detached the heater, so it would feel at least a little like Christmas via our indoor air temperature.
