My DIY furnace repair nightmare

I live in a warmer climate, and I don’t have to use my furnace for much of the year.

Last weekend, however, we experienced a cold front, and it got into the low 40s.

Not wanting my family to be uncomfortable, I turned on the furnace before I went to bed, only to wake up in the morning to a cold house. Luckily I was off of work that day, so I was able to take matters into my own hands. I did what I always do when something is broken, and scoured YouTube for answers. I found a video where the speaker described a problem similar to mine, so I went to the hardware store, and bought a replacement part for my furnace. The defective part came out with ease, and the new furnace component fit right in its place. Unfortunately, however, when I went to turn my furnace back on, it was still blowing cold air. Several YouTube videos and several trips to the hardware store later, I had unsuccessfully spent the whole day trying to repair my furnace, but to no avail. The next morning, I contacted my local HVAC provider to ask for help. They were able to send a technician out quickly, and the HVAC professional was able to quickly diagnose my situation, and have my furnace working again in no time. Most importantly, he told me how crucial it is to have frequent inspections of my HVAC system, in order to prevent it from failing again. Now, I can rest easy knowing that I won’t be stuck with a cold house!
