It’s hot, hot, hot here and if it wasn’t for central air conditioning and the wonders of residential HVAC, I’m not sure I could get through the summer.
But this is for sure the toughest test of the year when it comes to the climate.
For my wife and I, it’s particularly challenging given that we spend much of our work days outside in the elements. We have a boutique landscaping design company. For 8 months of the year, this is the best job in the world. The sun is shining, the sky is blue and the temperature feels so good all day. Even in the dead of our mild winter, working is wonderful. We may wake up to some HVAC heating happening in the house just to knock the chill out of the house. But that is even rare. Starting our work day in long sleeves and a hoodie quickly moves into shedding layers once the sun hits its zenith. So, it’s not like I’m complaining because we get a whole lot more perfect weather than we do challenging weather. That said, air conditioning at home is a high priority for us during the summer. We start super early so we can get the labor end of things done and get our crew out of the peak heating hours of the afternoon. Then, it’s back to the HVAC cooling of our offices at home to finish up the paperwork and details of the day. Trust me, we wouldn’t change what we do for anything. Nor would we prefer to be in the zone controlled HVAC of an office building. Still, having the smart thermostat set the air conditioning just perfectly for when we get home is just essential.
