I told my girlfriend that I had to help a co-worker with a furnace repair on Saturday.
My girlfriend and I were supposed to go to the theater together, but I didn’t want to go when I found out that my friends were going skiing.
They told me to cancel on my girlfriend, but I knew she would get upset. I foolishly and stupidly decided that lying was a better idea then telling the truth. I told my girlfriend that I had to help my coworker Jack with a furnace installation job and she was sad that I could not go with her to the theater. I woke up bright and early and left the house as if I was going to work. She did not see me grab my skis and snowboard from the garage. I was only on the slopes for two hours before I fell, broke my leg, and had to go to the emergency room. The worst part of the entire experience wasn’t the broken leg. The biggest problem was the fact that the hospital called my girlfriend because she was listed as my emergency contact. She immediately called me and asked if I was hurt during the furnace repair. I had to tell her the truth after she called me concerned and upset. She was mad for several days, and she threatened to break up with me if I ever lied to her again. We had a nice discussion about communication and I told her that I really didn’t like the theater at all. I went to the ballet with her once, but only because I was trying to impress her.
