I never need to leave that shipping container office unless I want to

I have a four bed and two bathroom house. My husband and I both work from home and don’t share a bedroom. It isn’t feasible for us to share. He snores and loves AC. I am a light sleeper and require heating. We even have a ductless HVAC unit so our thermostat settings aren’t the same. He is also a pack rat and a bit of a slob. I can’t imagine sharing a living space with him. It would be awful. We both need our own room and each needs an office space. Well I am pregnant and we are out of rooms. One of us needed to lose our office. My husband was very reluctant to put his office in his bedroom. So what I decided was to contact a modular homes company and see if they can do an addition for us. They were able to make an affordable modular office space. I designed the office to be the exact size I want. I have a big window, a door that locks and I even splurged to have a bathroom set up in there. I also have a small fridge where I can keep my breakfast, lunch, coffee and drinks in there. I never need to leave that shipping container office unless I want to. My husband has since seen the office and is super jealous. He keeps telling me how it would make more sense for him to have the modular office and I stay in the main house with the new baby. Oh no, we aren’t playing that game at all.

I had a friend that went through a terrible divorce.

His ex wife really turned into a crazy witch. She knew the dicorce was coming. So one thing she did was charge up all the credit cards so that my friend had to pay half the debt in the divorce. What she did was pour wet cement down all the drains. The kitchen and bathrooms all had wet cement poured down them. It then hardened and ruined the piping. You can’t run any water in there currently. My buddy had an emergency plumber come over to look at the job. The whole plumbing needs to be gutted. Every pipe needs to be ripped up and done again. The plumber even thinks that the septic system might be damaged as well. The sewer line looks pretty rough and he would want to drain the tank to take a further peak. It will cost my buddy thousands of dollars to fix this giant plumbing repair. That horrible woman knew totally what she was doing too. Forget slashing tires or stealing things from the house. Cementing down the drains is the most horrible thing I have ever heard in my life. My buddy is considering suing her over it. He is not sure he can win since they are technically still married at this point.

My drains are frequently getting clogged up.

I will admit, I put things down that I shouldn’t.

I am the girl that flushes tampons even though I shouldn’t. I dump grease down my kitchen drain and if my garbage disposal will grind something, it is going down the drain. I even toss other questionable items down the toilet. I have gotten better with that since I had a sewer line repair that was expensive. I made the mistake of flushing the plastic top of a stick of deodorant. Whoops, my bad. Anywho, my normal drains are always in rough shape. I keep a bottle of drain cleaner on hand and fervently pour it down the pipes. I also have a plunger near my toilet and kitchen sink. Anytime water drainage is slow, I then take the plunger for encouragement. I have even bought myself a plumber’s snake. Every now and then I remove the drain cover in the shower and snake down it. I find pounds of hair, soap scum and other icky things. Then I have better drainage. About once a year I actually pay for professional drain cleaning. They are much better than chemicals and a plunger. They have way better tools and get everything in working shape. I feel that it is worth every penny. My plumber always has a little talk with me about proper drain care and what can and can’t go down them. I always promise to be good but I fall into bad drainage habits quite quickly. I know that whatever I put down the drain can be removed at a later date.

When I got off work early, my wife said it was perfect because I could go get some beans for the chili she was making that evening.

Then when I was on my way to the store to get the chili beans and other supplies that we needed, my boss called me on my cell phone.

He asked me if I could help with a commercial AC repair. I started to tell him that I had to go to the grocery store to get some chili beans and a few other things. Then he said what the place was and said he thought it was a grocery store nearby my home. It actually was the very grocery store I was on my way to which was surprising. I realized this meant the AC system would be lacking in the store and it would be miserable inside of there. I told my boss I would take care of the repair after he told me how much I would make for the job. Of course, I had to update my wife on what was going on. She seemed disappointed that I took additional work, but I assured her I wouldn’t be too long. I’ve been working on commercial HVAC systems for so long that it’s relatively easy for me to take care of the work quickly. I was able to knock out the AC repair in approximately 30 minutes. When the manager saw the good work I did and had operational AC in the store, he said he would pay for all the groceries I got. Because he was paying, I got some steaks and a cheap bottle of wine so I could have a romantic candle lit dinner with my wife the following evening.

I will be the first to admit that I’ve never been a huge fan of flying.

As a matter of fact, flying on planes terrifies me.

I will typically make excuses to not fly whenever I have to travel. I’ll gladly take a train, bus, or rent a car over taking a plane anyday. Well, this last trip, I had to make it to my grandmother’s funeral, so I had no choice but to take a plane. It all happened so suddenly and the funeral arrangements were made in no time. So I managed to get a cheap flight, but the seating was cramped, and the air quality on the plane was lacking. It was good seeing family I hadn’t seen in a long while, but it was a sad occasion. Still, we all had a huge family dinner together and we all said a few words for my grandmother. On the flight back, I had to get on an adjoining flight. The initial flight was heavily delayed because there was a forest fire with heavy smoke in the airways. I was glad when we finally were going, but the adjoining flight was gone before I could reach it. I ended up getting a voucher to stay the night in a hotel. The hotel was surprisingly nice with fantastic air quality. I had the AC cranked in my room and got some room service. The food was good and I was able to sleep easily and then I was able to get my new flight early in the morning. When I finally got back home, I was so grateful to see my family again and take it easy for a little while.

When I first had a hybrid heating system installed in my home, I was expecting to have this extremely powerful heating system that didn’t leave a single chill in my home.

Well, when I first started using the heating system in the start of the winter, it didn’t seem like I was getting that much heating at first.

I ended up having to learn that heat pumps function differently than traditional heating systems. They actually pull the heating energy from outdoors and bring the heating energy inside to provide heating. They are extremely energy efficient down to about 40 degrees fahrenheit. So I came to learn that so long as I kept the heat pump working, the temperature in my home remained stable, but it takes time to get the temperatures to what you want initially. When the temperatures fall to freezing levels though, that’s when the gas furnace kicks on. Now that gas furnace has been really pushing the heat in my home this winter season. I’ve also been amazed with the cheap energy bills. When the HVAC professionals told me I would save a lot of money on my energy bills, I thought they were just overexaggerating the benefits to make sure they got their sale. Well, they weren’t far off because my energy bills are lower than I’ve ever seen. My old gas furnace wasn’t nearly as energy efficient as this new hybrid heating system. I’ve even gotten used to the heat pump and have come to appreciate it, because the energy bills are lowest when I’m using it. I also look forward to using it in the summer to see how well it provides cooling for my home.

It was funny the last time when our dial thermostat quit working.

My wife seemed excited about it and asked if we could get a smart thermostat.

I wasn’t ready to give up on that old dial thermostat though, so I worked on it. I ended up watching a tutorial on how to fix thermostats like that, and I was able to get it working again. It worked for about a year, and I even tried fixing it again, but this time it was really done for. Finally, I agreed to go with my wife to look at the thermostats they had for sale at the hardware store. We found a lot of fancy looking thermostats and I kept telling my wife we didn’t need anything fancy. I actually found another dial thermostat that looked perfect and the price was as cheap as ever. Then my wife ended up finding a smart thermostat that looked something like a dial thermostat, but it had an LED screen. This thermostat was on sale. The cost I thought was still way up there, but it was way cheaper than all the other smart thermostats. I read the box of the smart thermostat to try to understand why my wife wanted this thing so much. When I saw that it would save up to 15% on the energy bills, I was already sold. I wished she would have told me that a long time ago when I first fixed the dial thermostat. I would have made the investment way back then if I knew we could save so much money on the energy bills.
