It wasn’t the most expensive residential HVAC or the best on the market when we had it installed. But man, it provided outstanding heating and cooling for over 25 years. I have to attribute a good bit of that longevity to the fact that we always got seasonal HVAC maintenance. We never missed a heating maintenance in the Fall or an air conditioning tune up in the Spring. That’s all it took to have more than 25 years worth of flawless quality heating and air in our home.

For me, I moved to improve my mental health. Living inside a house with a gas furnace running for like 5 months in a row played havoc with my emotions. But at the time, I didn’t realize that it was the climate and the lack of sunshine that played such a big role in how I was feeling. I finally started seeing a therapist and the more work I did, the more it became clear that I needed to get myself to the sunshine. So I ditched the gas furnace in favor of a heat pump and I’m so very glad that I did. It’s hard for a lot of people to open up about emotional well being. To often we relate emotional struggles with some sort of failure. I felt so unworthy for so long before I started doing things for me. Again, that’s a big part of this whole thing. Being willing to trade all that heating for all this air conditioning was a huge step because I was doing it for me. I wasn’t appeasing anyone or trying to just get along. These days, I make sure that I get my face in the sunshine every day that it’s shining. And that’s most days around here. Even when it’s broiling hot outside, I get out of the central air conditioning of my home to get that injection of sun goodness. It’s still so nice outside that I can even slip out of the commercial HVAC of the office for time in the sun during my lunch hour. It’s made all the difference in my life.

I’ve been doing my best to help out my mom, because she hasn’t been doing very well since her back injury. She injured her back trying to mow the lawn. She fell down the hill and she hasn’t been able to walk in days. My sister is supposed to be helping out by going over there in the afternoon, but yesterday my mom said that she hasn’t seen my sister in days. I called my sister and she gave me a couple of excuses. Basically, my sister cares about herself and no one else. I tried to get my brother to help out, but he doesn’t want to do the work unless he is going to get a bunch of fame and credit. I’ve been going to my mom’s in the morning before I go to work. Yesterday I was there around 7:00 in the morning and my mom was still sleeping. It was only 60° in the house because my mom forgot to put wood in the furnace. I knew this type of problem was going to happen sooner or later. My dad used to put wood in the furnace every night before they would go to bed and my mom is getting more and more forgetful. I talked to my wife about converting from a wood furnace to gas or oil. It’s quite an expense and I think I would have to pay for the fees, but I still might have to do it. My mom could get hypothermia if she forgets to put wood in the furnace on a cold winter night. It’s September and temperatures at night are still in the fifties, but winter is approaching fast.

My sister has been living at my house for the past 3 months.

When she moved in, I knew that she was probably going to stay for a while. Her life has been a mess for the last couple of years. She has been in and out of rehab and in a bunch of different relationships. When my sister said that she was going to come and stay with me, I told her that there would be no drinking and drugs in the house. Things are pretty good except for the fact that my sister likes to adjust the thermostat temperature. I keep the thermostat temperature at 73° for a couple of different reasons. It’s energy efficient for the machine and it keeps the bills low. 73° is the most comfortable setting for me. My sister likes the temperature in the house to be 68 degrees and she won’t stop adjusting the thermostat. I threatened to get a smart thermostat with a lock code and she told me that she would complain to Mom and Dad if I did something stupid like that.

My wife and I recently moved to a new neighborhood and we had to have a couple of repairs completed before we could settle into the house.

There was a roof repair that needed to be completed and the garage was a mess. The AC system wasn’t in the best shape either, so I contacted a repair technician nearby to perform a service checkup.
