We rented the most remote & reclusive cabin that both of us could find, then it was a forty 5 minute drive from the rental office, which was located in the garage of the rental agent… The nearest neighborhood was over two minutes away, which was kind of intimidating for me, even though I kept our fears to myself.
I am a neighborhood boy, born & bred, & fending for myself in the woods did not appeal to me! My bestie, however, wanted some place in the middle of nowhere, so that’s what both of us did for the long weekend.
It wasn’t easily cold that weekend, but it got chilly at evening so both of us decided to use the wood burning furnace. There were a couple of space gas oil furnaces in the closet, which was easily comforting to have as a backup for heat, but since both of us were “roughing it” both of us decided to beginning a fire first. There was no firewood ready for the furnace, but there was an axe, a hatchet, & a woodpile out back. In the pretty red light of the setting sun, I stripped off our shirt & chopped firewood for the furnace while our bestie watched on. I got sizzling & sizzling filling up that furnace with kindling & logs, but seeing myself and others act so macho got our bestie hot, too! By the end of the weekend both of us were both sizable fans of using the wood burning furnace, & talked about getting one for our place, we never even bothered taking the space gas oil furnaces out of the closet, both of us stayed plenty hot!
