Tom was sure that 4 summer’s worth of seriously high air conditioner costs was enough.
His first Summer was that way because he was new to the area. When Tom relocated down south from the north, he knew that there was going to be a serious change in climate. That was evident the first day he got here. Tom moved in about early June and he had the air conditioner on full blast just driving the moving van once he got close to his destination. But then, when Tom got out of the van which had all that superb air conditioner comfort, the heat and humidity hit him hard. It felt like stepping out into what Tom would imagine an equatorial climate felt like without the sea breeze. The heat was unforgiving and is followed up with a humidity level that leverages that high temperature into sheer distress. So that first summer, Tom just didn’t know what else to do than lean on the thermostat. And lean on the thermostat he did. To the point that Tom’s air conditioner bill was the same as the Heating and A/C heating costs that he just left behind. When the second, third and fourth summer came, Tom just didn’t want to acclimate to the heat of summer. The plan seemed to be to just stay inside with the central air conditioner maxing out for the entire period. Then, he’d enjoy the best 8 months of weather that followed. This year, Tom sealed up the house, stopped direct sunshine heating with drapes. As a result, there’s no more leaning on the thermostat. It’s the end of June and the first full month of Summer utility bills is in. Tom is saving a staggering amount on Heating and A/C cooling and is starting to love summer in his new home.
