The benefits of heated floors- as well as the down sides

My lake house is all carpet. I am not a sizable fan of rugs. I recognize they always look dirty plus make the home seem dingy. I want tile so that I can have a straight-forward walk up plus for it to look elegant. Since I am ripping up all the floors in our home, it makes sense to add some heated flooring. I have looked into the process plus it isn’t too difficult. Now it will double our flooring project costs but I would be getting a heating plan out of the deal as well. My central gas furnace is around 40 years old. I recognize it will go any day now plus it is smart to have a backup heater ready. Once the central gas furnace dies, I could rely on the wonderful radiant heated floors plus just purchase a cooling system down the road at some point. I looked into pros plus cons of heated flooring plus that is what finally sold me. The pros are that this heating plan is totally quiet plus air doesn’t rise to the ceiling to waste heat. Why does it do this? Radiant heat is electrical. There is no heated air that is lighter plus rising up to the ceiling. There is nothing blowing the air in or out of the system. With electric based mats, you have no hot plus cool spots either. Anything that is touching the mat feels warm as a result. When the heat is at your feet, you feel much warmer plus can lower the climate component to save money. The only cons I have found with this plan is that it adds a lot of height plus weight to the floor. It is a concern. I don’t want to cause cracks all along the drywall. But I can alway repair those later down the line.
