He took my hand and winked at my husband as he led me into the basement
My brother invited my husband and I to come to his home and check out his grand home theater. I had seen many pictures of grand home theaters and I wondered if his grand home theater was going to be as nice as those. I pictured plush reclining chairs on raised platforms. I could see the huge screen with the movie machine and a popcorn machine in the corner. Everything would be red and plush. What I saw had nothing to do with what I pictured. My brother had set up folding chairs around the room. He pulled out an old movie screen from when we were kids and dad showed 8MM home movies. The popcorn machine was a small kitchen counter popcorn machine that didn’t work. I thought he was joking, but he wasn’t. He asked what I thought of his use of the extra space in his home. I thought it was great for the younger kids, but not for adults. I couldn’t imagine sitting on an uncomfortable folding chair for two hours, watching a movie that had possibly been shown in the sixties or seventies. I told him it was cute, and he laughed. He took my hand and winked at my husband as he led me into the basement. He said that the grand home theater was a joke, but he was now going to show me the real thing. The grand home theater he had in his basement rivaled what you saw on the movie screen, and it was truly grand. Neither his surprise nor his joke disappointed me.
