The whistling was caused by an open door

My air conditioner has been making a bizarre, almost unnoticeable whistling sound lately.

If I’m watching cable or doing things, I hear nothing.

But when I’m trying to fall asleep in the evening, the sound is unquestionably distracting. The whistling only launches when the air conditioner comes on. It’s not constant. That makes it even more annoying. If it was constant, I’d learn to tune it out. It’s making me figure I’m going crazy. The others say they can’t even hear the noise, but I haven’t been getting adequate sleep in over a month so I decided to call up our air conditioner dealer. The HVAC specialist came out and adjusted the door that closes the air filter. The whistling immediately stopped. Apparently, my husband had not closed the door properly when he changed the filter last week! Air rushing through the small gap in the door is what was causing the noise. I’m happy it was such an easy fix even though I wish I had thought of this myself! This would have saved me money! At least I wasn’t crazy though. The sound existed even if no one else could hear it. I hope I get a good sleep tonight. I bet I will, since the sound has vanished.
