We got a generator just to make sure that we could keep our A/C running after the fiasco we had last year when the power went out for so long.
We had such a long power outage here in our neighborhood that no one could even believe it. There were guys from the power company working around the clock, but everything was so messed up on the power grid that it ended up taking almost 2 whole weeks to get things up and running again. Meanwhile, everyone in our entire neighborhood was suffering without electricity and trying to learn to live without power for two whole weeks. That included us! The worst part wasn’t being without television or electric lights or places to plug in our cellphones, though. The worst part wasn’t even the fact that we had to warm things up in the fireplace like some old west settlers! No, the worst part of the whole situation was the fact that we had to go without our central air conditioning for two whole weeks during the summer. I don’t know about you, but living without my air conditioning was literally like torture for those two weeks. I love my A/C, and anyone who knows me will tell you that I keep the temperature in my house at a frosty 67 degrees during the summer months. So being without A/C because we had no power was really a big issue for us. By the end of that two week period, I had made the decision that we were going to be buying a generator for our house. I’m never going through all that again.
