Mom and dad found the rental agent was entirely nice, despite there being a language barrier. They were just visiting the island and didn’t speak the local tongue. But, the agent spoke a bit of English and was able to rent them a bungalow on the beach for their vacation. Mom and dad’s hotel had been closed down suddenly making their reservations now worthless. But, they were fortunate to get the bungalow without booking it in advance. The bungalow was on the edge of the sand, a hundred meters from the water. Inside there was electricity, but no air conditioning. Being a regular entitled American, dad just assumed any rental location he paid money for would come with air conditioning. He was pretty steamed about a lack of cooling, but mom pointed out that with the money they had saved from the hotel reservations, it would be easy to buy a small AC unit for the location. In the local hardware store, they found a small, portable air conditioner, just enough to cool down a room at a time. It cost mom and dad one hundred bucks, and they admitted it was the best one hundred bucks they’d ever spent, because that cooling was invaluable. At the end of their trip, mom and dad decided to leave the air conditioner in the rental condo for other guests. It was particularly small and portable, but mom still didn’t want to fuss with carrying an air conditioner onto an airplane! Dad hoped the next guests would like their gift.
