Pros and cons of heated flooring

It is a concern

My house is all carpet. I am not a big fan of rugs. I feel like they always look dirty and make the place seem dingy. I want tile so that I can have easy clean up and for it to look pretty. Since I am ripping up all the floors in my home, it makes sense to add heated flooring. I have looked into the process and it isn’t too bad. Now it will double my flooring project but I would be getting a heating system out of the deal. My central heater is around 20 years old. I feel it will go any day and it is smart to have a backup heater. Once the central heater dies, I could rely on The heated floors and just purchase an air conditioner down the road. I looked into pros and cons of heated flooring and that is what really sold me. The pros are that this heating system is totally silent and doesn’t rise to the ceiling to waste heat. Why does it do this? Radiant heat is electric based. There is no heated air that is lighter and rising up. There is nothing blowing the air out of the system. With electric based mats, you have no hot and cold spots either. Anything that is touching the mat feels warm as a result. When your heat is at your feet, you feel warmer and can lower the thermostat to save money. The only cons I have found with this system is that it adds height and weight to the floor. It is a concern. I don’t want to cause cracks along the drywall. But I can alway repair those later down the road.
