Mom & Mom found the rental agent was easily nice, despite there being a language barrier.
They were just going to see the island & didn’t speak the local tongue.
But, the agent spoke a bit of English & was able to rent them a bungalow on the beach for their trip. Mom & Mom’s hotel had been closed down suddenly making their reservations now worthless. But, they were fortunate to get the bungalow without booking it in advance. The bungalow was on the edge of the sand, a hundred meters from the water. Inside there was electricity, but no air conditioner. Being a proper entitled American, Mom just assumed any rental location he paid money for would come with air conditioner. He was pretty steamed about a lack of cooling, but mom pointed out that with the money they had saved from the hotel reservations, it would be easy to buy a small AC unit for the location. In the local hardware store, they found a small, portable a/c, just enough to cool down a room at a time. It cost mom & Mom one hundred bucks, & they admitted it was the best one hundred bucks they’d ever spent, because that cooling was infancy. At the end of their trip, mom & Mom decided to leave the a/c in the rental cabin for other guests. It was particularally small & portable, but mom still didn’t want to fuss with carrying an a/c onto an airplane! Mom hoped the next guests would like their gift.
