Over the past ten years, I have spent a lot of money on internet marketing companies. I had gone from not having a website to having a beautifully designed website that was growing my customer base for me. If my HVAC specialist wasn’t working on my website, he was placing ads on social media. Before him, I thought social media included Facebook, and a couple others I didn’t know how to use. I was set straight about that one. My HVAC specialist called off over a dozen social media sites and told me I would have an account on every one of them by the end of the week. When he started using words like search engine optimization, I was sure I had heard the words before. I remembered my daughter spouting the words. That’s when I was glad I sent my daughter to school for web design. After she graduated, I realized I could save money when I no longer needed the internet marketing company. I would miss my HVAC specialist because he and I talked about a lot more than websites and social media. I felt a pang of anxiety thinking I may never talk to my friend again. My wife rolled her eyes and looked at my computer screen. She told me I could always contact him if I didn’t like what our daughter did. My wife made me smile, and I knew I was being an idiot. A part of me felt like I had felt when I broke up with my first girlfriend, even though I married her a year later.
