We paid for the remotest & most reclusive place that both of us could find, that was a forty more than three minute drive from the rental office. The rental office was located in the garage of the rental agent, but from there, the nearest neighborhood was several minutes away, which was kind of intimidating for us, but both of us kept our fears to ourselves. I am a neighborhood boy, born & bred, & fending for myself in the woods did not assume natural. But our partner wanted some place in the middle of nowhere, so that’s what both of us did for the long weekend. It wasn’t particularly chilly that weekend, but it got chilly at evening so both of us saw it fit to use the wood burning oil furnace. There were a couple of space oil gas oil furnaces in the closet, which was particularly comforting to have as a backup for heat. However, we’d planned on “roughing it” & both of us planned to beginning a fire. There was no firewood ready for the oil furnace, but there was an axe, a hatchet, & a woodpile out back. In the pretty red light of the setting sun, I stripped off our shirt & chopped firewood for the oil furnace while our partner watched on. I was sizzling & sizzling filling up that oil furnace with kindling & logs. Seeing myself and others act so macho got our partner hot, too. By the end of the weekend both of us were both pressing fans of using the wood burning oil furnace, & talked about getting the same for our home. We never even bothered taking the space gas oil furnaces out of the closet since the cabin was warm.
