I just got fortunate in moving here… The best time of the year is in the fall when there is a beautiful cool breeze which spreads around the good air quality. In retrospect, the heater breaking down on me was the best thing that could have happened.

It was what they call a “moment of clarity” or “a come-to-Jesus moment” depending on your religious beliefs. I was snowbound in a remote cabin in the foothills, with no electricity or cell service. It would take days at least before I could get out or anyone else could get in. The old cabin was sturdy, but drafty, and I needed some heat. The place came equipped with an old natural gas heater that required no electricity. Alas, the heater was broken, so I had no means of keeping myself warm. There was a fireplace, and I found an ax, so I had to brave the cold and trudge through the snow to cut firewood. As I froze my nips off in the snow, chopping wood, I thought back to how I had always taken heating for granted. Every house I had ever lived in, or even visited, had central heating. I had always assumed that any time I needed warmth I could just twist the knob on the thermostat to get more comfortable. Those few days in the cabin, constantly feeding the fireplace for some semblance of heat, really changed my perspective. What else besides heating was I taking for granted? Clean water, fresh air, the availability of food? Unlike a furnace, I couldn’t just turn on the fireplace and walk away, I had to sit beside it and tend the fire constantly. By the time it was over I had lost a few pounds, and gotten a new perspective on life.

I am quite sure that regardless of what the problem is, my attempts to help will only make things worse. There are a host of local experts and handymen that can assist me, no matter what my domestic issue happens to be. However, when money is tight and I can’t afford to pay a guy $200 to come over and inspect my air conditioner, I have to get creative. Youtube is a great place to start, because I needed to find something like an Air Conditioning For Dummies tutorial. I am deeply thankful that someone out there took the time to make a laborious, three-hour long deep dive into my particular brand of air conditioner. This video was insanely long, but literally took apart an A/C unit piece by piece and explained what everything was, and what it did. I watched the entire video, and then took the metal housing off of my own A/C unit to see what I could find. Sadly, it was not something that I could fix. I doubt even the most seasoned HVAC export could have fixed it. Somehow a raccoon had gotten under the housing and into the delicate guts of the HVAC unit. There were shredded wires, blown fuses, missing pieces, and in the middle of it all there was a dead, flash-fried raccoon. No wonder the smell was so bad!

I was born and raised a southern boy.

I never say anything approaching snow or ice all through my youth and teenage years.

When you only see snow on TV, it looks like a lot of fun. Now that I have moved up north I see that the reality of snow involves a lot more work. Making a snowman, or having a snowball fight, is always a lot of fun. What isn’t fun is shoveling the driveway so you can move the car, or leaving all the faucets dripping so that the water pipes don’t freeze and burst. It surely has been an adjustment, but thankfully I have a great heating system so at least that isn’t one of my worries. I am approaching the end of my first full winter up north, and I am deeply thankful for the furnace in the basement. I was a bit worried at first, because this was the oldest furnace I had ever seen in my life. Coming from the south I wasn’t used to having a basement, nor had I encountered such a large, heavy furnace. This furnace is literally older than I am, and yet it still runs amazingly well. The realtor told me that the furnace was so big it had been installed during the initial construction of the house! That means they installed the heating system, and then built the house over the top of it. This furnace is so big it can’t ever be moved without causing major damage to the house, so I hope it keeps working for a long time.

I went back to the internet to do more research, and discovered that I was just an idiot, because I have an electric water heater that doesn’t use a pilot light.

Every day I take a shower, as hot as possible. Unlike my wife, who will stay under the water for half an hour or longer, I am in and out in under five minutes. I rinse, I scrub, and I wash my beard and then I’m done. Going bald at an early age cut down on my shower time, because I no longer needed to worry about shampoo and conditioner! I enjoy taking a scalding hot shower right after work, because I emerge feeling relaxed and recharged for a fun evening. When the hot water heater stopped working, my daily routine got thrown out of whack. I don’t know the first thing about water heaters, but I knew there should be a pilot light. I removed the front panel from the water heater and looked inside, but could see no little flame. I went back to the internet to do more research, and discovered that I was just an idiot, because I have an electric water heater that doesn’t use a pilot light. The pilot light is only used on the traditional water heaters that run on natural gas or propane. It turns out there was a problem with the wiring, and since I know as little about fuses as I do about water heaters, I knew this was out of my league. I had to bite the bullet and call an HVAC repair company to have an expert fix it for me. Thankfully it’s a lot cheaper to fix a water heater than it is to fix a central HVAC system, because the cost wasn’t too bad.

My wifey is from a actually warm weather conditions.

I mean, she is from an actual tropical island.

She is one of those island beauties that you regularly study about with olive skin & good long, dark hair. She is literally the most good person on the planet, in our opinion. Whenever we first started talking to each other, I never dreamed that she would ever settle for correct seasoned me. I am just a normal guy who lives in a correct house. I have a correct job & a correct car. In other words, I am just a correct seasoned guy & somehow I got lucky enough to get this person to fall in like with me! Whenever we decided that we were going to get married, she decided that she wanted to come & move in with myself and others in our beach house instead of the other way around. That was good with me, although I guess that she got a little more than she bar acquired for because of the weather conditions where I live. She was used to residing in a locale that is warm & sunny all the time. She never even had a furnace in her beach house whenever she was growing up because the weather simply never got cold enough for one down there where she lived. Whenever they got a little cold once in a while, they would just build a fire in the wood burning fireplace in their proper room. Now that she is residing here with me, she’s cold all the time. I believe sorry for her because she is regularly cold! All of us have a relaxing high efficiency heating system, though. I told her that she can turn the thermostat up as high as she wants as long as she stays here with me!

In the Summer this year, we are planning to turn the garage into extra residing space.

• All of us have basically outgrown our house, & our kids are all getting greater by the minute; Not only that, however we got a Great Dane last year & that pet is easily huge.

Since we wanted to build an addition onto our house, we started to talk to an Heating & A/C corporation about the project. Since the addition is going to be honestly huge & it’s also going to consist of 2 stories, we are anxious about what that is going to mean for the heating & cooling situation in our house. Our existing Heating & A/C system does a good job of heating & cooling our current residing space. All of us have relaxing indoor air quality & the heating & cooling bills are relatively inluxurious. However, once we add on all of this up-to-date square footage, it’s going to be a odd story. That’s why I called up the Heating & A/C corporation. I’m not even sure if our existing Heating & A/C system will be able to handle all of the extra square footage once it’s built on, even if we connect ductwork to our existing system. The Heating & A/C corporation seems to guess that it will just be too much for it. He advocated that we guess about adding in a up-to-date Heating & A/C system to handle the heating & cooling in the up-to-date section of the house. I guess that he’s honestly right. I would rather do it all at the same time than wait until we’re finished & then realize that the heating & cooling aren’t working officially.

While our office was shut down during the Christmas break, the commercial Heating as well as Air Conditioning company came as well as cleaned the air ducts in the office building.

This was the first time that anyone had ever touched the air ducts in that office, as far as I know.

I have been working there for about 15 years, as well as I have never seen an Heating as well as Air Conditioning company come to do any air duct cleaning at all, so it was legitimately surprising to me to see that they were going to do it. I was glad to see that it was going to happen, though. In our opinion, you should do respected air duct cleaning when you’re the owner of a sizable office building.
