With such an old home there come sizable issues that are difficult to maintain.

The house I’m living in is over thirty five years of age and there are a lot of areas that are falling apart or require a lot of service.

I knew that some of the issues would require attention at some point during my tenure living here, however that still didn’t change how mad I was by each and every additional project that came along! Currently, I have a critter issue in my attic. I didn’t realize that my attic was housing rats until I began hearing them run around above me. It sounded prefer they were racing each other around! I called an exterminator to come handle the issue, and he told myself and others that the process would a period of multiple weeks. When I asked him why rats were living in my attic, he said it was because the heat my oil furnace was providing was rising up into the attic. The pull down attic door which was located in the hallway wasn’t sealed that well due to the old age of the house. The exterminator commanded that I purchase a strip to seal the edges of the doorway so that the heat wouldn’t continue to rise into the attic. He also said that there was a small aperture in the attic that led to the outside, which was where the critters were entering the attic. The guy was convinced that if I patched the hole and sealed the door, that it would eliminate my rat concern completely.

When Cal and I bought our older home, he decided to seal as much of it as the two of us could in order to keep our Heating and Air Conditioning treated air inside.

It’s a brass, dial thermostat, which means that everything needs to be changed by hand. The imprinted numbers on the dial are so tiny that it’s almost impossible to read unless there’s enough light. This makes things challenging during the evening when the house is dark! Over the past five months, I’ve felt prefer I’ve been trying to change conditions myself with the thermostat in order to get the most out of it. The dial is certainly precise, which means that my house is never the comfortable temperature I want it to be. I’m consistently adjusting the settings in order to get the temperature of my house at a desirable temperature. Trying to maintain all of this is difficult because I get the feeling that all the wild temperature fluctuations are only hurting my Heating and Air Conditioning system. I’m not sure that this is really a thing, although I think uneasy about consistently increasing the temperature of my house because it may be confusing for the Heating and Air Conditioning system!
