The windows looked pretty and the glass door was gorgeous. The problem is that I never wanted to open the windows, because down south the outside temperature is never right. I didn’t want the hot, muggy summer time air blowing in or the cold winter air. I also didn’t want to sit in a space with no heating or cooling. So, I either sat inside our modern home with perfect HVAC or dealt with the breeze when I was working outside. My terrible lanai was ignored. I finally got smart and decided to update the space. I bought all modern windows and screens to make the space air tight. I then got a ductless HVAC device installed to provide heating and cooling. I now can sit that much closer to the outside but have the temperature control I want. I have made the space a sitting area and the other section our new home gym. Everyone prefers coming over to our place and sitting in that room. I enjoy being outside but getting the perks of being indoors. The large windows show a perfect view of the lake, sand and our gardens. I can happily sit in that room for hours now that I have the temperature control program that I want. The cost of the update is not that much when I consider how often I use the space. If I had to pay a dollar everytime I relied on the HVAC equipment, it wouldn’t take long to pay it back.

It works out really nice when they leave too, because my parents want me to watch over the house. I can efficiently water plants, mow their yard and turn lights on and off because the beach house is so close. The most recent time was a bit rougher because I noticed the Heating, Ventilation plus A/C unit wasn’t turning on. I went over to the thermostat and saw that it was working fine. But, the actual HVAC unit wasn’t operational anymore. Rather than call my parents and get them all worried, I worked on it and got it fixed on my own. I had a Heating, Ventilation and A/C company come over to the home to take a peek at the equipment and perform repairs. A space inside the unit had iced over and gotten disfigured in the process. The A/C repair was a few hundred bucks and I had to pay the guy’s labor. My parents do a ton of free work on our house. I figured I owed them a HVAC repair. I didn’t tell them the Heating, Ventilation and A/C was repaired until they were already in the home and using it and normal. They were pretty excited. I worked on it and had it fixed without bothering them.

While there are vented units that provide warmth and cooling, there are also vent-free systems. There are some units that are more popular than others. When a HVAC system is popular, knowledge lags. There are more myths than facts during this period and it is no different for the ductless heat pump. I am a victim of one of these myths. I thought the noise was a normal occurrence for this unit. I later found out from a heating technician, that even though this unit has outdoor central heating and an indoor electric furnace, it is as quiet as a fridge. It turns out that the furnace was leaking and hence the whining noise. If I had not contacted the engineers, I would have a disaster on my hands as at the same time I had my gas fireplace. Another myth is that this unit cannot handle cold weather. When the heat pump install is done properly, this unit is supposed to provide quality heating throughout the cold season. It is a fact that these units can run longer than a traditional dual fuel system, however, some energy saving tips learned from my local contractor is to always set the temperatures low when sleeping or when not in the house. Another myth is that these vent-free units are huge because they have indoor and outdoor parts but they are relatively smaller than traditional ones. These units provide both cooling and heating services just like the zone control unit. Similar to a fireplace, these units do not need too frequent maintenance, once a year is sufficient.

Regular servicing of your unit is essential in conserving energy and lowering utility bills. A ductless heat pump is a HVAC unit that heats or cools a space through an energy-efficient vent-free system. This unit has outdoor central heating and an indoor electric furnace. The indoor unit is maintained by keeping the air filter clean at all times. As a homeowner, I learned how important it is to hire a local contractor to help in the proper placing of the furnace before completing the heat pump install. To provide quality heating, the unit should be placed where there are no obstacles and where there is proper drainage. Even with the routine checkups that I perform on the unit, it is important I schedule annual heating services on the unit from a trained heat technician. I was surprised when a co-worker of mine invited me to see his comedy act at this certain music lounge.

They did stand-up comedy every weekend and he said he did shows there all the time. I guess I shouldn’t have been so surprised because he was funny all the time. Regularly, a lot of us would be dying in laughter because of his jokes. When he was up there, he did his thing in such a natural way. Confidence just oozed from the man and he had such hilarious jokes. I was dying when he was saying how women should quit looking for guys with fancy cars. He said it’s the fancy HVAC systems that they should be looking for! He had everybody laughing hysterically at that. He told everybody to wait a minute because he had to explain. He said sure, it’s nice to have a fancy car, but if you’re at the house where you spend most of your time and you’re feeling hot and sweaty, that’s not going to work out! Then you have that huge car payment and you can’t even afford fancy dates because of it (laughter all around). Just the way he told the jokes was so smooth. I realize writing about it doesn’t do his performance any justice. I appreciated that he brought HVAC into the joke too because I’m a big fan of being comfortable with a good climate control system. I actually agree that it’s smarter to invest in a good climate control system over a nice car. Even the temperature control settings at that music lounge were amazing and I stayed there for hours having a good time hanging out with my co-worker and friends.
