I saved much time in my life with proper planning.

Time is money and I saved time by getting lucky a few times this summer.

One was by winning a scratch off and the other is by being a newly certified HVAC repair specialist, and having to fix my unit. It was summer and I was up in the mountains one day in my summer bungalow. I had a new solar system, roof panels and new plumbing in the place. I decided to stay there and after a hot day I went to turn the HVAC on. I set it to 70 degrees in the house and went to shower. I got back and the cooling unit was off to my surprise and dismay. Not only was I a new repair specialist, but I was working much on these all year and was looking forward to time off from work. I figured 6 to 8 hours it would take me, it was an older air conditioning unit and I wasn’t as used to using these or working on them. I had a few tools with me, and I went to find some old ones in the garage, I got lucky again. I fixed the unit and I finally got it working before I fell asleep. With proper planning, good tools and some knowledge… it isn’t too bad to fix an air conditioner. I was only on the job for 6 months, and because I was hot and had company the next day, fixing the air conditioner was of most importance to me. I stayed up till 1 am to get it done, and made sure I double checked my work in the morning before I went out on the town. Heating and cooling was following me everywhere, even on my summer vacation.

It was a great day until the air conditioning unit went out.

It was an older unit, and the condo was a bit older too.

I decided to save money, I would look things up about fixing an HVAC unit. I read, watched videos and took notes on how to fix heating and cooling units, in different states and with different brands too. I had the tools and I was a pretty smart guy. I realized quickly it was about experience and troubleshooting things, when it came to fixing something complex like this. The air conditioning unit had wiring, bolts, and the electricity was dangerous so obviously it was the least active I could make it, but it took me a while to get comfortable up in the attic and with the tools. Usually a normal HVAC repair would take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours, but it took me 10 or 11. I took a few breaks, got frustrated at times and decided maybe I should have called someone. I toughed it out and got through the repair, but I had to be sure that the HVAC unit was working right and would work at all safely. I called my uncle who was a repair specialist for heating and cooling units and he said he would check the thing out on the weekend. It turns out I was indeed a rookie and left a few wires hanging, and one bolt unscrewed. He said it was a good job for my first time fixing an air conditioner. All in all, I saved money and not time.

I was having one of those amazing summer days but I was burnt to a crisp from the sun.

• I had looked forward to going home, jumping in the pool and cooling off by the new HVAC my neighbor just installed.

He was a new HVAC repair specialist and I was excited to let him try out his craft on my house, for a discount. He was too! I trusted his work, he seemed smart and professional to me since he moved in. I knew a little about heating and cooling, plumbing and electrical too, but I didn’t have a clue how to install a new air conditioner. I got home and my new cooling unit my neighbor installed was broken. It looked like a wire was loose, it had a bolt missing and it would not work or turn on. He explained his mistake he must have made and that he just went out of town with his girlfriend. He said he was worried, and would surely fix it when he got back on monday. It was friday and I was about to have to go the whole weekend without a proper air conditioner. It was the middle of summer, I had a huge party coming soon and I needed to cool the place down. I had a pool but what good was it to cram everyone outside. I had no idea what to do. I called a new service provider around the corner to come and fix the unit. I decided to tell my neighbor and to my surprise he was unhappy with the choice to go somewhere else. I told him that he made a mistake and I was paying for it, he told me he was sorry again and I got a crash course lesson on how to fix the air conditioner too. In the end the problem was fixed, it just cost a little bit of money and time but it was worth it to be cool and refreshed after a long day.

There is nothing more classically american than a family watching TV in the living room cooling down by the air conditioner.

We had a blast all day long at the cabin we had for the summer.

• We white water rafted, fished and ate burgers for lunch.

We were exhausted and tired on the way back to the cabin. We were sunburned, hot, sweaty and whatever else you can throw in there! We were looking forward to our cold drinks and a brand new air conditioner we just installed in the cabin. Last summer the heating and cooling system in the cabin broke and we came prepared this time, we thought. We got back at 7 right at dusk and we noticed the electricity was off and had been all day. The fridge, air conditioner and other things were off. The cabin was heat filled and our food was going bad. We didn’t believe what was going on. We called the campgrounds but it was after hours and nobody picked up. We would have to wait until morning to get the electrical systems going again. They must have been very old too. I couldn’t imagine what was going on. How was it that we came prepared, discussed sunblock, fans and air conditioners for an hour and were still gonna sweat all night. We didn’t consider that the camp runs on an old power grid from the 1950s and that we had relied solely on their power. Maybe hand fans, and other means of cooling down like ice in heat proof coolers would be good just in case next time. We woke up, had the HVAC specialist come out and he kindly helped us fix our problem. We were thankful, cooling off and ready to enjoy the day again. Consider all possibilities when camping.

It was a harsh tough winter day, it was icy and it was one of the worst winter storms we have had in years. My neighbor was a nice sweet old lady who made me cookies from time to time. I got a call from my other neighbor across the street and I asked him if he had proper supplies and means to stay warm. He said he did have a new heating unit, firewood and other things, but my neighbor next door was without a heater or a fireplace. I thought there could be a mistake, she made it through the last few winters fine and through all the snow. I even helped her fix her air conditioning problem she had. I went over to check on my little old neighbor and shoveled the snow off her door step and sidewalk area. I rang the bell and after a few rings she finally came out. I told her I was here to help her with any heating issues she had that winter, and to see if she was doing alright. She explained to me her heater had broke and was supposed to go out and get one but didn’t because she was sick. I told her not to worry, I had some experience with heating and cooling systems and worked with them before. I got a new heater for her, installed it and she was happy as can be. I showed her how it works, when to turn it on and off and how it will work with her home’s insulation. Now my neighbor can stay warm and smile all winter long.

The sun can be our life saver and also be a detriment to us. The sun’s rays can be harmful in prolonged periods of time, and it can call for very hot days when it beats on the house. We have to appreciate but respect mother nature, and all the hot and cold days she brings you. Protection from the sun is vital, and so is staying warm in the harsh winter when the sun doesn’t pierce through everything. Having a proper foundation in your house is amazing, and a new house with new systems is even better. The best thing about a new house, is… what would you think? Some might say a new stove, a new washer and dryer but I would say a brand new HVAC unit. The peace of mind a new heating and cooling system brings to you is unmatched, and even better on hot long work days when you wanna come home to relax. The last thing you would want to have to do is to come home at the end of a long day, sit up late and wait for the HVAC repair specialist to be done. Coolers, heaters, fireplaces, electrical units and generators can all be vital to staying warm, cold and even safe. Having a new unit not only ensures peace of mind but it would work amazingly, with new insulation and even your neighbors will want to lounge around and cool off. Having a new system is great, but if you don’t have one just maintain yours and have it serviced or checked on. There’s nothing wrong with an older heating and cooling system that works great.

Summer break was so busy on the beach we couldn’t switch rooms or find another house nearby to stay in for the week

It was a great summer day and my buddy and I just got back from the beach with our girlfriends. We had ice cream, got sunburned and a few other things transpired on the sandy shores. We were pretty burnt by the sun, and it was a hot day. We had a two room condo on the main strip for the summer, and we rented it last year. The condo had an old heater from god knows when and an even older HVAC unit. This thing rattled when it turned on, made funny noises and it sometimes changed its own temperature setting. It was a mess, this air conditioner. We fiddled with the thing for a while and figured it needed a break. It turns out when I got back the next day the condo was hotter than outside, and I was puzzled. The HVAC unit broke early that morning, my friend said. He had called a repairman at 7 and 8 oclock to come and one came out finally at 3. He couldn’t quite fix it and said he would have to order a new unit for the room. Summer break was so busy on the beach we couldn’t switch rooms or find another house nearby to stay in for the week. We decided to sleep with the door open and use a fan to tough it out. Needless to say, we will have a better plan next summer for avoiding the summer heat. I’m bringing more sunblock, my own fan and learning how to fix an old and new HVAC unit maybe, that’s how hot it was!

The snowy winter days can be harsh but friends, family and the holiday season make it all worth it.

Snow, ice, hail and sleet can cause hazardous situations on the road and make it very cold inside. Many northern homes and old structures have old insulation and mainly brick or stone structure. A lot of heating and cooling systems can be outdated and need to be repaired. Heated floors, oil lamps, HVAC units, fireplaces and other things can be used to heat the home. Proper insulation will help the heat stay inside and not escape to the cold. Being ready is vital because the icy hazardous conditions can make travel for repairmen or HVAC specialists in your area very difficult. The great thing about having pre-winter repairs and check ups of your heating and cooling equipment is that you have peace of mind all winter knowing you have a reliable plan for staying warm. Some people like to use back up generators and things like flash lights in case they get snowed in or cant travel for food and water. Mountainous terrain is even more cut off and isolated in the snowy winter, and having a proper heater when you live off the grid is vital. There are many different heating units and they can be solar, gas or electric. Make sure you have a plan this winter before heading into it, and that you consider checking your HVAC units and other heating systems in the home. Being caught with a badly needed repair isn’t what you want happening in the middle of a snow storm!

I always end up thinking about my Grandparents for a long time as well as I correctly go visit their gravestones in the Springtime season.

I believe Springtime is the best time because the weather is always just right. Not to mention, for me, the Springtime was always my Grandmother’s number one season. I always remember being out there enjoyable with her while swinging on the porch swing. It was great planting flowers with my Grandmother as well as playing cards with my Grandfather. Oftentimes afterwards we would get a fire going in the fireplace while in dinner as well as we would sit down to have a cozy brunch. Of course we would only do the fire if it was cold outside at that point. Their home was properly insulated too so they didn’t waste too much money on the cumulative energy bills when heating as well as cooling the home with the Heating plus A/C system every single day. Of course my Grandfather would always shout if anybody left the nearest door or window open. He would be annoyed if the a/c was escaping or the heated air was passing through. Eventually my Grandparents had tons of radiant heated floors installed as well as that made all the family want to happily congregate at their home for many family gatherings as well as meals. It was pretty much always a memorable experience no matter what when going to visit with my lovely old Grandparents. I always consider these good memories I had at their locale when I go to visit their gravestones. Blessedly, my family ended up selling the home as they couldn’t afford to keep up with it.
