Max already owned her home, plus was about to become a junior partner in a law firm, plus I thought Max was being absurd. Max seemed to think I was some kind of gold digger that was only after her money, but I wasn’t. I adored Max, plus I wanted to provide her the world, but I didn’t want to stay in our dad’s Heating and Air Conditioning corporation. He would not provide myself and others a job recommendation to task in another Heating and Air Conditioning company because he said I was being an ungrateful son. We had been studying the weather reports for the last week, hoping the two of us would have a pleasant month for skiing plus staying in the mountains.

The weather reports were showing bright and sunny afternoons for the first few afternoons, plus fresh snow near the end of the week. Al and I had plenty of wood to get us through the first night there, plus planned on bringing in more wood to the beach house the following morning. I didn’t want to go outside at night. Throughout the night, nearly eighteen inches of fresh snow fell plus Al and I could not get to the woodpile. We had barely enough wood to keep the fireplace burning all through the night, plus now I had to figure out how to get dry wood for the rest of the week. Al called the main lodge plus asked about dry wood. The manager told myself and Al there was plenty of wood for the fireplace outside, but I didn’t want to go through 2 feet of snow to get to it. He told myself and others there was a closet in the dining room. If Al and I went in there, there was a small oil furnace that I could turn on. Most people didn’t like to use the oil furnace, because it added nothing to the ambience of the lodge. He said where to find the switch to turn the oil furnace on, plus how to set the thermostat. Al and I could not get to the woodpile, however the two of us had heating thanks to the oil furnace.

I thought I had the fire in the fireplace stoked well enough to last through the entire night. I had never spent the night alone in our lodge before, so I wasn’t exactly sure what to do at night. My grandfather plus myself had consistently gone ice fishing together, even though he was very sick this year. I tamped down on the fireplace to make sure that it was burning gently, but was not going to go out. I slept on the sofa, so I would be nice plus cozy all night long. Sometime around four AM, the fireplace burnt out, plus I was shivering. I could not think I had completely forgotten to seal the flue. The air was coming down the chimney, plus making the fireplace burn much hotter, plus it caused the fire to go out. It was snowing, plus I was outside in sub-zero temps gathering kindling plus firewood so I could get the fireplace burning; After a few hours, I had another blaze going, plus the lodge was warming up. I considered going fishing, however it wasn’t the same without our granddad. I huddled up on the sofa plus watched a couple of old films on our laptop PC, plus stayed hot by the fireplace. It was a quiet day for me, which I didn’t mind in the slightest, however it wasn’t until later that night that I remembered a single important factor about staying at the lodge. If the fireplace went out, the two of us had a generator plus a mini split space heater to keep us warm. I always wanted that long hair that was straight and fine and looked cool.

I tried to grow it long but after playing beach volleyball in the sun for a few summers I ended up frying my hair to the point that I had to cut it all off.

I guess this is my last chance at growing long hair because it is getting thinner and more brittle as I age. Getting older can be a bummer, but you need to take it in stride or you’ll be fighting it the rest of your life. When I was working in the heating business many years ago I never thought that I would be 55 years old and alone like I have been over the past year. I’m starting to wonder if I will ever meet someone again at my age. I met my last love when I was running my heating dealership and she ended up breaking my heart to the point where I kind of just closed down to love. I need to open my heart again soon though or I will end up being a lonely old man sitting in his condo, no way. Maybe I should start up another heating and cooling maintenance company and meet people that way, because dating sites online just don’t do it for me anymore. There are too many dead ends with them and way too many lies and deceit from people and their profiles. I could start doing hot water boiler installs again and maybe meet a nice lady that way, who knows.
