One thing that I have figured out over the past year is that if you’re going to be working from home, then you absolutely have to have a well working HVAC system. That’s something that I had to learn the hard way this summer when my air conditioning system went on the blink at my house. I love my central air conditioning system and I use it all the time when the temperatures are hot outside. So whenever it stopped working, my house started heating up immediately. I couldn’t concentrate on my job and I started making mistakes on my work, too. I couldn’t figure out what the issue was with the A/C and so I called up the landlord to tell him that there was a problem with it. He said that he couldn’t do anything about it right away because he had a couple of other people on the list for A/C repairs in front of me. I ended up calling up the local HVAC company myself so that I could get an earlier appointment. That’s because I use a different HVAC company than the one that he uses. I finally decided that I was just going to pay for the A/C repairs myself because I just couldn’t stand to try and work in that environment for any longer. I was so hot that I couldn’t get any of my work done at all. It was so annoying that I couldn’t get the cost covered by the landlord, but getting the A/C fixed earlier rather than later was totally worth it. You just have to have a working air conditioning system when you’re working from home.

We won a contest from an HVAC company
Earlier this year, my husband and I bought a raffle ticket from one of the little neighborhood boys who was selling them for his baseball team.
They usually have a fundraiser sometime in the spring and we always try to support the team and buy tickets from them.
It’s nice because the other parents in our neighborhood always buy fundraising stuff from us whenever our kids sell something. Anyway, whenever we bought the raffle tickets we never in a million years thought that we would win the HVAC system that they were raffling off. We were thinking about having to put in a new heating system in our house this fall anyway and so when we found out that we could buy a raffle ticket for a new one, we thought that we would just try our luck on winning it. Well, it turned out that we actually did end up winning, even though we hardly ever win anything at all. When the heating and cooling company that was sponsoring the contest and the team called us up to tell us that we had won the new heating and cooling system, you could have knocked me over with a feather. I was shocked that we had actually won it! But I was also relieved that we would have to pay out of pocket for a new furnace ourselves. It was a really nice surprise and a huge relief to us that we had ended up winning a brand new heating system before the winter started up again for the year.
My husband’s dad taught him to fix things
One of the things that I like the most about my husband is the way that he knows how to fix almost anything.
It’s a real turn on, if you want to know the truth.
I love a man who can take care of things around the house and who isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. It’s nice that he’s able to fix the car and any of the appliances that break. We never have to call a repairman for things around the house including plumbing and heating and air conditioning repairs. I know for a fact that we have been saving all kinds of money over the years by him being able to fix our heating and cooling system. We tend to have all kinds of troubles out of our old oil furnace and our old central air conditioning system. But, being the kind of people that we are, we always try to fix things instead of buying new ones. It’s usually okay because of the way that my husband can fix all kinds of things, but I think that one of these days here soon, we are going to have to give up and go ahead and buy a new furnace. My husband is really great at fixing things, though, and it’s all because his dad taught him how to fix lots of stuff around the house. I’m glad that he paid special attention to the furnace system, though, because otherwise, we would have been out a furnace years ago! He’s been able to keep it running much longer than it probably should have been.
I hate the way that I keep putting things off
I really annoy myself sometimes with the way that I am always putting things off.
I am the world’s worst procrastinator for some reason. I’ve always been this way, too. It’s just an innate personality flaw, I think. I used to have this same problem back when I was a kid in school and I would put off my homework and studying for tests and things like that right up until the last minute. Most of the time, I would end up doing it on the school bus on the way to school the morning of the test! And I am sad to say that not much has changed now that I am an adult. I still procrastinate about a whole lot of things. It’s the worst when it comes to things with my house such as getting the heating and cooling system checked out when it needs to be. It happens at least once or twice a year when the weather is changing. For instance, in the spring when the weather is heating up outside, I always need to get my air conditioning system checked out and maintained. But for some reason I always wait until the last minute when the temperatures outside are already too hot to give the local HVAC company a call. That means I end up waiting for an A/C maintenance check much longer than I should have to. If I would only do things on time, it would be much better for my heating and cooling system and for my indoor air quality.

The huge window in our living room is not helping with the cooling bills
We have a really huge window in our living room, and unfortunately for us, it faces in a western direction.
This means that the late afternoon and evening sun streams right through the window for hours each day and it starts heating up the house right after lunch and it doesn’t stop until the sun goes all the way down at night.
Our family doesn’t even go in there during the second part of the day most of the time because it’s just too stuffy and hot in that room. It’s pretty annoying for all of us since we are a pretty big family and it’s nice to be able to have that room where we can all go to spread out. I love that room, too, so the fact that it’s basically unusable most of the time in the afternoons and evenings is super irritating to me. We decided, after talking to our local HVAC company, that we are going to be putting in something called a ductless mini split air conditioning system in that room. With a ductless mini split air conditioning unit, we don’t have to worry about having to upgrade our existing central air conditioning system or anything like that. We also won’t have to worry about running additional ductwork into the living room and ruining the aesthetic look of our wood beams on the ceiling. Instead, the wall mounted air conditioning unit should just be placed on the wall, unobtrusively, where it can begin cooling us off without looking terrible or messing up the place.

This year before we started using the air conditioning for the summer, I totally spaced out and forgot to clean out around the exterior A/C unit.
Usually I make that a top priority every year whenever I start getting ready for the summer.
Whenever the weather starts heating up outside, I start pulling out all of the summer stuff like the pool floats, the shorts and tank tops, the flip flops, and the other outdoor stuff that our family likes to use during the summertime. During that time, I normally make it a point to check the exterior air conditioning unit to make sure that there isn’t anything growing around it or over the top of it. Sometimes vines or weeds or branches or other debris can get near the vented cover of the A/C unit and if that happens, it can really affect the air conditioning inside of the house. I once heard about this crazy freak accident where a raccoon somehow got sucked into the air conditioning unit when it turned on for the first time after a long winter. It killed the poor raccoon and it also killed the air conditioning system. I never want anything awful like that to happen to me and so I always make it a point to check the exterior A/C unit. However, this year, I just got too busy and it totally slipped my mind. I turned the air conditioning on without checking it first and a bunch of long grasses and weeds got pulled down into the fan! It didn’t tear it up completely, but the A/C didn’t work right at first. Luckily, I figured out what the problem was early on.
You have to have the HVAC serviced twice a year
With our HVAC warranty, you have to have the HVAC system serviced by a heating and cooling professional at least twice.
Not only that, but you have to use an HVAC company that is approved by the HVAC system’s parent company or it voids the warranty completely.
It’s not something that I really paid all that much attention to when we first bought the HVAC unit, though. You know how it is whenever you’re in the end stages of buying a huge purchase. You’re usually sick of thinking about it and sick of shopping and you’re just ready for the whole thing to be over and done with. At least that’s how I always feel. I kind of end up zoning out there toward the end because I’m just always done with the whole process by that point. I don’t really want to hear anything else about it; I just want to sign the papers and run the credit card bill at that point. Anyway, they were going on and on about the whole part of the paperwork where it talked about the warranty and the HVAC service appointments that I would need to make. I just wasn’t listening, to tell you the truth. Thank goodness my husband happened to find the paperwork for the HVAC system and glance through it a couple of weeks ago. If he hadn’t, we would have totally ended up voiding our warranty without meaning to. We had not had our HVAC unit checked for months and it was getting to the point where time was just about to run out.
I always prefer to use a family owned HVAC company if possible
If it’s possible, I always prefer to use a family owned HVAC company to take care of my heating and cooling issues.
- I just think that family owned businesses do better than the larger corporate owned ones most of the time.
I’m not sure why that is, but I have my suspicions that it’s because the family owned businesses just have more at stake when it comes to making their customers happy. They really seem like they care about your comfort and the indoor air quality of your home. And granted, they might just be acting like they care in order to get your money, but the thing is, I don’t care if they are just acting. As long as they get the job done and they give me specialized attention when it comes to my central air conditioning and central heating system, I honestly don’t really care what their motives are. I just want them to come to my house, be nice to me and to my family, and do quality repair and maintenance work on the heating and cooling system at my house. In my personal experience, it’s always been easier to get that type of treatment with a family owned HVAC company than with the larger HVAC companies. Those guys really seem like they don’t really care about the quality of the work that they do on the HVAC system in my house. However, with the family owned HVAC companies, you always get better service. The last time my air conditioning system tore up, I called up the local family owned heating and cooling company and they had it fixed up in no time at all. I think that I might be using them from now on.

Our A/C tore up when the weather started heating up
We have a lot of bad luck when it comes to our heating and cooling system in our house.
I don’t know what the problem with it is, but for some reason, we just keep having issue after issue.
Maybe we ended up buying a house with a lemon of an HVAC system. I haven’t really ever heard of anything like that before, but apparently it’s a real thing. We have been having problems with that darn HVAC system from the first day that we moved in there. It’s really interesting that we have had this much trouble. Well, I guess it’s interesting but it’s also very annoying. I hate the fact that we are always having to call the local HVAC company every week or two to have them come in and fix something or another. Well, this year, we decided that we were going to try and turn our central air conditioning on much earlier than usual because the weather was heating up super fast. The temperatures outside were really hot already, even though it was still early in the springtime. We decided to turn on the A/C and I guess it’s a good thing that we did it that early after all. The A/C made a wheezing sound and then it completely conked out. It would not turn on no matter what we did, and so we ended up calling the HVAC company to have them come out and fix it again! Well, they got it up and running and it was a good thing, too, because we have been in the middle of a heat wave ever since then. We have had the hottest spring and summer on record around here.

When we first met online a few years ago, I didn’t realize that my husband lived so far up north.
I mean, he actually lives so far north that they barely have any warm summer months there at all.
The town where he grew up is freezing cold for about nine months out of the year and they have to use their heating systems nearly year round because of that. Well, whenever you’re first dating, you are all in love and worried so much about being lovey dovey with each other that sometimes it’s difficult to talk about regular mundane things like the weather or the temperature outside. That’s what happened with us whenever we started dating. I knew all of the personal stuff about my husband but I didn’t know anything at all about the place that he lived. I should have asked him about the place where he lived, and about the temperature that he was used to, and his HVAC system and things like that. However, I just never asked him about anything like that. I just didn’t care about things like that at that point because I was more interested in talking about the mushy stuff with my husband. Well, now, I wish that I had asked him more about things like that. Now that we live together, it’s always an issue because I ended up moving up north to live with him. It’s so cold up there that I want to keep the furnace running all the time. I keep the thermostat turned way up all the time. He says that I’m too cold natured, but I have to protect myself against the cold temperatures around here!
