Look, I know many stories always go the other way around.

A guy who is well off comes into this girl’s life and makes her shine. Usually, when it’s a well-off lady helping her man, things don’t seem to end well. But, the pandemic hit me hard, and I was almost losing my mind. When I met Jillian, I was at a bad place, and had gone to seek help at this facility in the city. She is the daughter of the main donor, and we began talking about life. I came to learn that she’d also suffered a huge loss of a child and a marriage. So, she was also benefiting from the services at the center, and that’s why she pressed her dad to keep supporting it. After a year of knowing one another, we fell in love, and she helped me out financially to reopen my small diner. It was a good time to do this since 2022 saw the restaurant business come back to life. Not once did Jillian make me feel bad for needing help, and I promised to pay her back. She refused, but I was determined to do that. That summer the diner needed a new cooling system. Since Jillian was helping with the running of the place, she began to make plans to have a new cooling system installed. However, I told her I’d pay for the cooling system since business was booming. She wouldn’t accept me to pay her back for reviving my business, but I knew she wouldn’t stop me from purchasing the new cooling system.

When I moved into my grandma’s former house, I felt so happy. She had been the best person in the world, and raised my brother and I. Our mom wasn’t in the best state to raise us when we were young. So, grandma stepped in and was awarded custody when I was 5 years old and my brother was 3. Never once did we lack, and she even managed to get us scholarships to study in private schools. Grandma has always been a go-getter, and even worked as an HVAC specialist. The HVAC world is quite male-dominated, but this didn’t stop her from shining. I remember when we’d go see her at the HVAC company after school, she had the respect of the other HVAC specialists. Fast forward to 2019, grandma fell ill and passed away. At that time, my brother and I were living in the city, working and building our lives. Grandma had long left her HVAC specialist job, and was living her life. We felt so sad to lose her at such short notice, but we made sure to give her the best send off. She didn’t have much, but she left me the house, and my brother got this lovely cabin with 5 acres of land. I loved that house so much since it was full of the best memories, so one day I told my brother I’d live there. This would mean a longer commute to work, but I felt it was what grandma would have wanted me to do. Plus, I’d not need to pay rent in the city. There was so much to sort out in the house including lots of heating and cooling magazines, and devices. Some weren’t usable, but the rest I gave to this local HVAC business to see if they were in good condition. This was better since HVAC units aren’t cheap, and a second hand one is better than none.

We love everything about the change of seasons, and we even managed to make a thriving business from this.

• My partner and I are avid photographers, and we love taking pictures during the change of seasons.

At this time, the atmosphere is magical in our location, and that’s the best time to take out the cameras. When we met, we both did this as a side hustle while working full time 9 to 5 jobs. Then, during the pandemic, we chose to start posting our pictures online and hopefully share the magic with others during quarantine. Folks responded so well, and we even got to take some images for people during early 2021 spring. These images started our business, and we chose the right spots. I left my job to focus on this full time, and my partner joined me during the summer of 2022. We have an amazing life with our son, and puppy. Our home is in the most beautiful location, and we feel quite blessed with the life we have. Our last client before the end of fall was an HVAC technician and his family. They wanted family pictures to capture the amazing fall colors. During that shoot, we managed to get excellent heating and cooling advice from the HVAC technician. He has been in the HVAC industry for 2 decades, and emphasized on the importance of fall heating maintenance. He said this was the best way to ensure the heating unit was working well during the winter months. We always make sure to get fall heating maintenance, but at times we wait until winter. His reasons for doing this during fall were the best, so we will try not to skip this in future.

Mom and I talk every day.

• I know she misses me being just a few minutes away like it was before the pandemic.

I was living in an apartment complex in the area, and basically had dinner at home each night when I didn’t have plans. Mom and I also did lots of things together during the weekend. I moved back home during quarantine, and our bond grew. However, in 2022, I had to relocate for work up north. This was the furthest we had ever been apart, and I knew it was affecting her. But she was so happy for me when I landed this amazing opportunity and even flew to the new city with me to help find the right apartment. After being with me for two weeks, mom flew back home, and I settled into my new position. Last Monday, we were talking about spending Christmast with grandma when mom kept saying her air conditioner was blowing warm air. That is why she had her fan out and was trying to remain cool. I knew mom had so much on her mind, and perhaps she had forgotten to get air conditioner maintenance during spring. She was in the middle of a speech about Christmas at grandma’s while fanning herself when I asked about the air conditioner maintenance. Mom stopped and said this had skipped her mind and maybe that was why the unit was blowing out warm air. I suspected this was an issue with dirty air filters, but I am not an HVAC technician. Mom would have to contact an HVAC company to send someone out to ascertain why this was happening. Then, they’d fix it and restore her good spirits.

My sister wasn’t sure how setting up her business would go.

But, I am so happy that she didn’t allow uncertainty to hold her back.

She was working at the time, and wanted different ways to invest her earnings. A friend suggested stocks and a business. Knowing my sister, she was going to try and do both, but not without some research first. She managed to get a mentor in the world of investing, and started growing her portfolio. Next, she worked on learning about business since she had been an employee ever since she was 16. My sister was loving the whole world of social media and online business. She began noticing the need for aesthetically pleasing places to take Instagram worthy photos and her business was born. She had 5 such places spread across the state, and is planning to expand. My sister also recently bought a cabin, and it’s in the most beautiful place. One major upgrade she wanted done to the cabin was setting up a new heating system. The previous owners had used a wood stove for a long time, but she wanted to also have the option of a gas furnace. A wood stove does have its merits, but she wanted that to be for emergencies, or nights she wanted a more ambient feeling in the cabin. Otherwise, a gas furnace was faster at heating the cabin, and maintaining an even temperature at all times. In addition, my sister also upgraded her heat pump which would come in handy during summer. During the heat pump installation, the HVAC expert showed her how to change air filters and my sister was so grateful.

Kelly and James have been together for 2 years, and it’s been quite an amazing time. They first met one night when out at a bar having some drinks with friends. James was with some guys from work, and Kelly was accompanied by her girlfriends. It was her birthday, so the guys offered to buy them some drinks. James approached Kelly to wish her a happy birthday, and she kissed him after a dare from her friends. Kelly didn’t think she’d see him again so there was no big deal. But, later that night, James asked her for her number, and actually called the next day to ask her out for dinner. She was working so they went out 2 days later, and have been together since. They both had condos, and opted to buy a house after tying the knot, while renting out their condos. One night, the AC in their new house failed, but they were too asleep to notice. It was about 5 am when Kelly woke up covered in sweat, and so was James. She went to check the thermostat in the hallway and it was off. James heard her in the hallway and got up sweating so much. It was in the middle of summer, and even the nights were hot, so they had to contact an AC repair person to come by. They left a message on their website with details of the issue and their location. Someone called at 7 am to confirm the AC repairer was on the way to their home. The couple were covered in sweat by the time the AC repairer arrived and helped fix the faulty AC.

Zendaya and her sisters are quite close.

They grew up in the country, and often they had to spend time with each other when doing chores on the farm.

Later, they each went to college, and opted to live in the city. Their parents did still have the farm, but it seemed none of them wanted to inherit it. So, they were considering selling it, and relocating to a retirement home. In 2020, Zendaya chose to go home and be with her folks a bit after losing her job. She didn’t want to pay rent for an apartment yet she was out of work. Her folks were happy to have her there. And they even joked she might stay forever if she wanted to. Zendeya’s sister connected her with some freelance work to write 1000 word blogs for heating and cooling companies. She ended up liking the work so much that she opted not to return to her hotel management job if the hospitality industry ever recovered. Well, that’s how Zendaya ended up taking over the farm and it made her parents so happy. She actually thrived in this place she’d run away from when she went to college. The animals and the landscape spoke to her, and made her HVAC writing gig prosperous. Zendaya also started taking some produce to the farmer’s market when they reopened and this was additional income for the farm. Apart from the work she got from the content mill company, Zendaya also got some direct HVAC clients, and this meant she was earning more. She did some renovations to the farm house last year, including upgrading the aging heat pump her parents owned.

Look, we messed up, and now we are facing the consequences.

• When my partner and I were having kids, our friends kept saying they’d be a handful.

We planned to have three kids each a year or two apart. That way, they’d grow up together, and have a fantastic relationship. Our friends told us that it would be hard handling 3 toddlers only a year or two apart. But, we had the easiest time raising our three kids. That’s until they hit their pre-teen and teen years. Oh my goodness! In no time we had three moody, irrational teens in the house, and it felt like we were always walking on fire. They had so many issues going on, and the once close kids were now at each other’s throats. It felt like we were always putting out fires in our home. There is the big blow out of 2021 that nearly sent us over the edge. Teens have different temperature requirements as they encounter hormones and grow up. And this is what led to them fighting over the thermostat settings. One time we walked into a shouting match in the living room, and my partner had to raise his voice for them to stop. Our daughter complained she was on her period, and it was too hot in her room. That was crazy since the house was freezing, and the boys said she was irrational and made them walk around in sweaters during summer. Well, that’s how we ended up installing HVAC zoning in our home with small thermostats in each bedroom. Then, we set strict rules about the temperature settings in other parts of the house.

At first we were co-workers, and had a few interactions in the office.

The one time a colleague invited us to his wedding. This was the first social event we’d attended together, and we ended up bonding quite well. We realized we love fashion, make up, and hiking. So we planned a hiking day during the weekend and it ended up being the best experience. Lisa and I gradually became closer, and now 5 years later, we are best of friends. She no longer works at the same company, but we live in the same area, and she is now engaged to my brother. Lisa and Matt bought a house last year in my neighborhood, and I was so happy they would be close. The house was an amazing 4 bedroom bungalow, and the owner had installed a new HVAC system. This was a requirement for Lisa and Matt since they didn’t want to have old appliances or devices in the house. So, they purposely ruled out houses with old HVAC systems and worn out ductwork. The realtor managed to land them this fantastic property before anyone else knew it was on the market. Its owner had done an overhaul of all the appliances and devices including installing a new HVAC system. He also upgraded the ductwork, and this was confirmed by a HVAC expert who came to do an inspection. Later, Lisa had to add a humidifier for their home. She has indoor plants, and they were suffering due to the powerful HVAC cooling system. Her plants responded well to the humidifier, and she is quite happy.

She was too adorable to wake up, so I chose to sleep on my comfy sofa

I didn’t know a pet can save your soul and help heal a broken heart until I found Libby. One evening, I was driving home from a friend’s after spending the entire time crying about my ex. As I was approaching my street, my headlights hit a bush in the area, and there she was, the tiniest thing. I stopped, got out, and used my phone light to find her. She was whining slightly, but the sound was faint. Given how cold it was outside, I knew this puppy wouldn’t survive the night. So, I got a small blanket from my car, wrapped her in it, and took her home. We have been together ever since, and I must confess that we saved each other that night. I made sure to turn on the heat in my car so she would be comfortable. This puppy was shivering so badly that I was worried she wouldn’t make it. I got home and immediately prepared a warm bath for her. At the same time, I adjusted the thermostat settings so that it was much warmer in the house that I prefer. Libby, as I later named her, enjoyed the bath, and seemed to bond well with me. After she was nice and dry, I found something for her to eat and drink before we went to see the vet the following morning. That night, I slept in the living room since Libby had found this spot near the vent and she fell soundly asleep. She was too adorable to wake up, so I chose to sleep on my comfy sofa. It’s been 2 years since we met, and Libby still loves lying near that vent during winter when the heating is on.
