I just went for a ride on my bike and the streets are filled with happy arts and crafts ladies getting ready to sell their stuff in this big tent by the beach. I really love seeing these older ladies enthused about life and about doing something they love. It reminds me of my grandmother and when she used to knit quilts for family members and friends back in the day. She really loved knitting and these ladies in town now remind me of my gram and all of the memories of her come rushing back into my mind. The local businesses are busy now and a lot of them will be open extra hours during the weekend to accommodate all of the happy knitters that are flooding the streets. The tents where they sell their stuff have small a/c units inside to cool down the people and the food, and even the HVAC company has a small booth in the place to show people what they have to offer. I like when this thing comes to town because it brings an energy that livens the place up and sets us all in a better mood. I will go for a ride to the heating supplier soon to see if they got any of the a/c filters in yet, as it is time to change the old one out for a new washable filter. After I do that, then I am going to take a leisurely bike ride along the coast and just watch people having fun doing what they love.

I will work for another 30 minutes on these articles and then I am going to take a break for a bit and go for a bike ride to rest my eyes and get some fresh air.

I love to see this because it is nice to see people, especially older folks, enthused and really into doing something they love. I will walk around the tents once they are set up just to watch people. heating and cooling in the big tents where the people will be isn’t necessary because it is very moderate out now and we don’t need any climate control just yet. But in a couple of months things will heat up and we will be needing ways to keep cool during the summertime heat. I have a good air conditioning system in my flat and I am going to try and delay using it till I get a new HEPA filter so that my allergies don’t go crazy when things start to run. I haven’t run it since last summer so I am sure that there is a lot of dust and stuff that is going to blow everywhere when it turns on. The HVAC rep told me it is going to be a hot summer and that I should get my A/C checked out before the heat comes to make sure that it is all ready for the season. I’ll buzz them this week.

I met her in the heating corp one day and we seemed to really get along, that is until we moved in together and things went haywire.

I need to copy the format I did last night with my sleep routine because I slept like a beast last night. I was in bed really early, at around 9:15 pm, and was reading and studying Spanish sayings for about an hour before falling asleep. It isn’t easy to get to bed that early each night though, especially with summer coming and the days getting longer and longer. I have a friend coming by this evening at 8pm so I will probably be awake till 11pm tonight, but I should still be good with sleeping enough. My air purifier makes a nice hum that lulls me to sleep while it keeps the air quality in my bedroom good so that my allergies don’t drive me crazy. I run the thing every night and there is hardly any dust in my room, especially where it normally is, like under the bed and in the corners of the room. I got a HEPA filter from the recommendation of this heating contractor and it really made a difference with my allergies and my overall health. I’ve been living alone for a while now, ever since my crazy ex (or maybe I am the crazy one) split up over a year ago. I met her in the heating corp one day and we seemed to really get along, that is until we moved in together and things went haywire. We would constantly get into fights about dumb things and it finally became too much and we went our separate ways. I still work at the HVAC company but she left the place when we split up. I wish her only the best of luck and happiness though.

I slept so well last night and today I am full of energy. I need to try and sleep like that more often because I just feel so much better about myself when I get a good night of sleep. How did I do it? I was in bed by 9:15 pm last night and read for about an hour before dozing off and sleeping the whole night. My sleep is a bit weird and I need to do what works for me, so maybe going to bed at a ridiculously early hour is the secret for me. My air purifier hums in my room and drowns out a lot of the noise from the local business behind me. I also put up some window foam insulation outside my bedroom window to stop the noise from coming through the glass of the window. My HVAC system also helps to drown out the noise from back there when it turns on the heater for the night. I think I may just run the fan of the unit all night because the noise from the system helps to drown out the loudness from the bar behind me. They have a gas fireplace out back and a lot of people sit around the fireplace for heating and they can get quite loud, especially when they are drinking a lot late at night. I also wear ear plugs and I put noise canceling headphones over them to really seal out all of the noises of the crazy people drinking and yelling at the local business.

I did the Rubik’s cube in 26 seconds in my home back in 1982 when I was 15.

That was about the world record at the time but I didn’t do it at an official contest and nobody saw me do it except for my own two eyes.

I think if I kept at it I could have been really good at the thing and broken some records, but so what, it was a crazy amount of time spent staring at the darn puzzle and I knew there was more to life than a cube record. The HVAC company where I worked had a cube and I did it in 20 seconds one time when I was working on an air conditioner in the storeroom one day. A few people saw me do it, but so what, it was just for fun and the world record of 8 seconds was way out of reach for me. The heating rep told me the other day that the world record for the cube is now under 3.5 seconds, which is just insane if you think about it. I could sit in front of my fireplace the rest of my life working on the cube and never come close to that time. I bet the fastest I could do it if I really worked on it would be about 15 seconds. My furnace broke the other day and I was doing my cube waiting for the heating tech to come by and help me, and I ended up doing the cube in 23 seconds that day.

I am probably going to buy this small djembe drum today, I just need to make sure I have enough money because I’ve been buying a lot of musical equipment the past few months and need to make sure I am not going too crazy with spending till my money starts to roll in.

• The drum is a small version of the djembe I have now, which will make less sound and hopefully not irritate the locals as much as the monster drum I’ve been using.

It is a constant battle with the locals when we play music in local businesses and around town. I just want to practice so that we can play in clubs this summer along the beach, as long as they have good air conditioning to keep us cool on the stages. I need to talk with my bandmate and see if he is ready to do this, as he seems a bit timid and doesn’t believe we are ready for the big time just yet. He works in the HVAC industry and wants to make the move to doing full time music gigs around the country, but I think he doesn’t want to stop working for the local contractor till he feels we are really ready for it. I think we have a lot of good songs already and we are ready to take the next step, but I want to make sure he is comfortable doing so. I also work as a heating tech during the weekdays and I would like to stop working for the new contractor soon.

I had accumulated almost sixty days’ worth of leave because I didn’t know how not to work.

After two years, however, I was forced to take my leave days.

My wife suggested I use my skill and financial ability to give back to society. The most recent natural disaster had left most people disheartened, and to put a smile on their faces, some of the HVAC repairmen and I decided to help with the HVAC maintenance in the shelters and individual homes. We provided free labor to the customers. When my bosses at the HVAC business got wind of what we were doing, they joined in to provide help with indoor comfort and set up a fundraiser to help families whose houses were destroyed by the disaster. Different local businesses provided quality HVACs at subsidized prices. The collective effort brought in more well-wishers, especially since the cold season was approaching. Even people who were not HVAC professionals joined the wagon and, in the process, learned more about heating since they were assisting in HVAC installation. The HVAC providers brought people joy and smile after the devastating disaster. In some homes, it was as simple as checking the ductless heat pump and replacing the air filters; others needed HVAC maintenance. There were extreme cases where the family had lost everything, including the house, which meant we had to install new equipment from various HVAC brands. Luckily those cases were few; most needed heat pump service and thermostat repairs. I felt better knowing I had helped someone in a desperate situation achieve quality heating for their family. Residential HVAC has been around in this region for going on 75 years of so.

That’s not to say that after the advent of the heat pump the entire region jumped on board.

But that’s roughly when our region first got a taste of air conditioning. I’m in my mid 50’s so I grew up inside a home that had central air conditioning. I never gave it a thought really because I never had to go without the cooling comfort that came from the heat pump. But I remember when I was about 10, my dad took me to the place where he grew up. I never met my grandparents as they worked hard and died pretty young. The house and the small farm went to dad and his brothers who kept it in the family by selling it to a cousin. So when dad took me out there, we had free range of the place. It was so fascinating that I can see it in my mind like it was yesterday. The cousins actually were still working the farm but there was still no central air conditioning. I think I remember a window air conditioning unit but I can’t be sure. So my dad who is now 80, grew up without any residential HVAC. Not a heat pump, not a swamp cooler or anything but a ceiling fan. That’s something that just almost snaps my brain. I couldn’t last a month in the Summer without the cooling comfort I get from the heat pump. My dad told me that when he was an early teen, they went to the city to a store just so they could experience air conditioning. Again, my mind stays blown.

Too often, the biggest scenarios are felled by the tiniest detail.

Of course, we’ve seen this over and over again throughout history.

So when I hear not to sweat the small stuff, I sort of wonder a bit. I mean, I get the gist of that saying but I also like to pay attention to details. That goes double for my work inside the commercial HVAC of the office and for my home. I might be a little more sensitive when it comes to taking care of my home than most people. I grew up in a series of foster homes and often did without essentials like residential HVAC. Thankfully, I got myself to college and I got myself an education. This allowed me to go out and make my own life. I’m awfully grateful for the people who helped me along the way and I do my best to pay it forward as often as I can. But I also make sure that I’m paying attention to the good fortune right in front of me. We have a home that my wife and I are very pleased with. It’s got a wonderful central air conditioning system along with all the HVAC technology that makes life just that much easier. We take a personal interest in making sure that our home is well cared for and organized. One of the things that I’m very on top of is the HVAC equipment. The HVAC professionals take care of all the seasonal maintenance. They come out during the fall to do the heating maintenance and then return in the spring for the air conditioning tune up. However, just changing the air filter isn’t a very important detail for every homeowner. But without unrestricted airflow, the HVAC equipment has to work harder unnecessarily.
